New Music Director Benjamin Rous kicks off his tenure at the Charlottesville Symphony with a concert that showcases the visceral thrill of orchestral music. The program moves from the dazzling, breathless virtuosity of John Adams’ fanfare Short Ride in a Fast Machine to the sumptuous lyricism of Mozart’s Clarinet Concerto, performed by Principal Clarinet Shawn Earle. And it closes with Beethoven’s brilliant Seventh Symphony, famous for its infectious energy and probing intensity.
