Christmas at the Paramount

** Affiliated Event

Saturday, December 16 - 2017

Join The Oratorio Society of Virginia for this beloved Charlottesville tradition and family favorite. Music Director Michael Slon conducts a 90-person chorus composed of some of the community’s finest singers. There will be two performances on Saturday, December 16, 2017 at 2:30 & 7:30pm.

The concert’s signature piece, J.A.C. Redford’s Welcome All Wonders: A Christmas Celebration, is at turns exuberant, tranquil, and haunting. Redford’s lush composition displays a dynamic synergy of voices as well as richly hued music which will linger in your mind. In addition, the chorus will perform Walking in the Air from The Snowman (a famous children’s film), as well as a selection of traditional English and Spanish carols. In what’s become an anticipated and delightful Oratorio Society custom, two guest youth choruses will perform during the concerts. Moreover, there will be an opportunity for the audience to join in the singing with the chorus, so that everyone can “sing in” the holidays together! An accompaniment of brass, organ, and percussion rounds out what is sure to be a vibrant and heart-lifting performance.

Bring your whole family and share in the warmth and beauty of an Oratorio Christmas.

“Anyone who doubts the power of community or the magic of the holiday season need only listen as [90] voices swoop and soar during The Oratorio Society of Virginia’s performance.” (C-VIILLE Weekly)

Tickets are available through the Paramount Theater box office or from chorus members.
