Musical Instrument Petting Zoo

Charlottesville & University Symphony Orchestra
November 9, 2013 - 12:00pm to 1:30pm
Helms Theater
Free

Faculty, student and community members of the Charlottesville Symphony at the University of Virginia will offer their fourth annual, free Musical Instrument Petting Zoo from 12Noon-1:30PM on Saturday, November 9, 2013 in the Helms Theater (UVA Arts Grounds). The event is part of the Virginia Film Festival’s Family Day. Children of all ages and their parents are invited to explore musical instruments from the string, woodwind and brass families. Members of the orchestra will be on hand to demonstrate the instruments and answer questions about them. Children and their parents will have the opportunity to try each of the instruments, too! The program is designed to help students make educated choices about the instruments they may choose to play in their school band and orchestra program. It also offers adults the chance to try an instrument they may have admired from afar for years during CUSO concerts. The instruments are on loan from Music for Hope (www.musicforhope.org). Members of CUSO will offer a special performance of movie themes at 10:00AM in Culbreth Auditorium (UVA Arts Grounds) immediately prior to a 60th anniversary screening of Peter Pan. All VFF Family Day events are free of charge. More information about the Charlottesville Symphony at the University of Virginia and its outreach programs can be found at www.cvillesymphony.org.
