Christine Coogle, soprano, will present a voice recital on Saturday, March 2, at 8:00pm in Old Cabell Hall. The recital is part of the McIntire Department of Music’s Distinguished Majors Program and will be free and open to the public, followed by a reception in the lobby.

Christine is a fourth-year music and French double major and presents this recital as a culmination of her work with her teacher, Pamela Beasley, over the last four years. The program will include oratorio arias by Bach; operatic arias from works by Mozart and Massenet; and a number of art songs by composers such as Bellini, Schubert, and Debussy. The recital will also feature pianist Karen Dalton and oboist Olivia Bona.

Over the last three years, Christine has received training and performed in France, Italy, and Canada, as well as in California and Georgia. She took part in the Operafestival di Roma and the Vancouver International Song Institute’s (VISI) Theatre of Art Song program in the summers of 2010 and 2011, respectively. During the fall 2011 semester, she studied with Mme. Agnès Mellon at the École Normale de Musique de Paris d’Alfred Cortot, as part of a French immersion study abroad program. This past summer, she played the role of the Second Spirit in Harrower Summer Opera’s performance of Die Zauberflöte. Following graduation, Christine will be singing in the ensemble of La Bohème and serving as a conducting intern with Ash Lawn Opera. She hopes to begin graduate studies in voice performance in the fall.

This recital is supported by the Charles S. Roberts Scholarship Fund. Established in 2004 by the generosity of Mr. Alan Y. Roberts ('64) and Mrs. Sally G. Roberts, the Charles S. Roberts Scholarship Fund underwrites the private lessons and recital costs for undergraduate music majors giving a recital in their fourth year as part of a distinguished major program in music.
