Oratorio Society: Together in Song: Rutter & the Royals
Featuring John Rutter's Requiem as well as music from the British royal weddings. With flute, oboe, harp, cello, percussion, and organ. Community members will have the opportunity to join Music Director Michael Slon for a morning choral masterclass which will enable them to sing with the Oratorio chorus during the afternoon concert for the public.
About John Rutter's Requiem: Poignant rather than morose, the Requiem is deeply moving and creates a fusion of modern style and romantic melody. It is optimistic in its message of hope and comfort, and is a piece renowned for its beauty and grace.
About the Oratorio Society: The Oratorio Society of Virginia is the longest-running community chorus in Central Virginia. Music Director Michael Slon conducts the 90-person auditioned chorus, which is composed of some of the community's finest singers. With its reputation for superb sound and a joyful spirit, The Oratorio Society of Virginia has garnered the respect and loyalty of a widespread audience.
Philanthropy Partner: The Oratorio Society is pleased to have Hospice of the Piedmont as its fundraising partner for this concert. Hospice of the Piedmont is a community-based nonprofit organization providing end-of-life care and grief support for patients with life-limiting illness, their families and loved ones, and anyone in the community. Oratorio will gladly welcome donations for Hospice of the Piedmont at the ticket table in the lobby before and after the concert. Concert (4 pm) and choral masterclass* (10 am to 1 pm) will take place at First Presbyterian Church which is located at 500 Park Street in Charlottesville. Ample, free parking is available. *Masterclass fee includes concert admission.
