The University of Virginia McIntire Department of Music presents the third of six concerts in the UVA Chamber Music Series on Monday, January 25th at 8:00 pm in Old Cabell Hall. The UVA Chamber Music Series brings an array of musicians to provide professional performances to the University and the central Virginia community. Directed by Kelly Sulick, the programs offer a wide range of works that are sure to entertain, educate and enthrall.

This concert features the Rivanna String Quartet. The Rivanna String Quartet brings vibrant concerts to Central Virginia on the grounds of the historic University of Virginia. Quartet members are dedicated to promoting collaboration, quality performances, and education throughout the community. The Rivanna String Quartet looks to find the balance between the old and new, bringing a fresh look to the string quartet’s robust and varied repertoire through collaborations with living composers and guest artists.

The Rivanna String Quartet is the resident string ensemble for the McIntire Department of Music, where the members serve as faculty and as principal musicians of the Charlottesville Symphony at the University of Virginia. Individually each musician maintains an active teaching and performing schedule within the community collaborating with such organizations such as the Kluge-Ruhe Aboriginal Art Collection, Ash Lawn Opera, Monticello, Charlottesville and Albemarle school systems, and the Richmond Symphony.

Members of the quartet include Daniel Sender (violin), David Sariti ( violin), Ayn Balija (viola), Adam Carter (cello).
 

The Rivanna String Quartet presents an enthralling program of string quartets sure to delight any audience. The program includes Dmitri Shostakovich’s “String Quartet No. 3,” Libby Larsen’s “Sorrow Song and Jubilee,” and Franz Schubert’s “String Quartet No. 15 in G Major, Op. 161.” 

The University of Virginia Chamber Music Series is supported by the George F. and Marion E. Jones Endowed Lectureship Fund.

Old Cabell Hall is located on the south end of UVA's historic lawn, directly opposite the Rotunda.  (map) Parking is available in the central grounds parking garage on Emmet Street, in the C1 parking lot off McCormick Rd, and in the parking lots at the UVA Corner.  Handicap parking is available in the small parking lot adjacent to Bryan Hall.
