The University of Virginia McIntire Department of Music presents a spring concert by the UVA Wind Ensemble and Concert Band on Sunday, April 28th in the Hunter Smith Band Building.  The concert is free and open to the public. Selections will include a variety of American themed compositions such as Salute to American Jazz by Sammy Nestico, New England Triptych by William Schuman, American River Song, and Charles Ives’ Variations on America.

The UVA Wind Ensemble features 52 of the most outstanding brass, woodwind, and percussion players at the University. The Wind Ensemble is dedicated to passionate performance and diverse repertoire encompassing a wide variety of styles and composers.

The UVA Concert Band is composed of eighty to ninety accomplished and dedicated students from every division within the University. The Concert Band focuses on the development of musical excellence and expression. While the Concert Band meets solely during the Spring, the repertoire is challenging and demands rigorous practice throughout the semester. Music selections typically include staple band literature, pop music, and concertos with special guest artists.

The Hunter Smith Band Building is located at 180 Culbreth Road on the Arts Grounds at the University of Virginia. Parking for the concert is available at the Culbreth Road Parking Garage. (map)
