Youth Orchestras of Charlottesville- Albemarle

The Youth Orchestras of Charlottesville-Albemarle proudly presents its first concert of the 2009-10 season on Friday, November 7th at 7:30 pm in the Monticello High School Auditorium.  Appealing to jazz enthusiasts and classical music lovers alike, the program will feature a movement of Rachmaninoff’s  Piano Concerto No. 2 with world-renowned soloist Dmitri Shteinberg and Blues for Orchestra by Charlottesville’s very own prolific jazz composer and virtuosic trumpeter, John D’earth.  Also included on the program will be Bizet’s L’Arlesienne Suite No. 2, Wagner’s Overture to Die Meistersinger, as well as pieces by Rimsky-Korsakov and Ralph Ford.  Students in YOCA’s two most senior ensembles will perform: The Rita M. Evans Orchestra, conducted by Donald Brubaker and The Youth Orchestra, conducted by Dr. Charles West.

Founded in 1977, the Youth Orchestras of Charlottesville-Albemarle provides a full and enriching orchestral experience for young people throughout the Central Virginia area. YOCA is comprised of two full symphony orchestras, a strings program, and three flute ensembles, all of which rehearse and perform in Charlottesville, Virginia. Each orchestra and ensemble rehearses weekly, has its own conductor and performs in three concerts during the season. Youth Orchestras also sponsors the Martha Dugan Concerto Competition for orchestral instruments and, along with the Charlottesville Music Teachers Association, co-sponsors the CMTA-YOCA Piano Competition.

Tickets are $10 for adults, free for students age 18 and under.
Tickets will be available at the door the evening of the concert.
