Making the leap from high school to college can be challenging. The expectations and knowledge of the different course offerings seem endless and new terminology and technology is thrown at a fast rate. To help prepare for this transition, UVA is offering incoming first years and transfer second year students the opportunity to pick up a few skills and engage with other students through the Hoos Getting Ready Program.

A wide range of course offerings are available for students including The Musical Joke: Finding Humor and Meaning through Music. Taught online by Associate Professor of Viola, Ayn Balija, 1 to 2pm, Monday-Thursday, from July 19th to August 12th (no Friday classes) This class is designed for students of all levels interested in music and the arts to analyze the thought and musical interpretations from Socrates to TikTok. What is humor and how do we reconcile our differences? Special guests will also be invited to introduce the various arts programs at UVA, community organizations, and share their own view of humor. Apply by June 1st to take advantage of this free program.
