The University of Virginia Department of Music continues its Faculty Artist Series with a performance by internationally acclaimed violinist Daniel Sender on Saturday, February 6, at 7:30 p.m. in Old Cabell Hall. This concert is sponsored by the UVA Arts Council, enriching the arts on grounds.
An internationally recognized performer, educator, and scholar, Dr. Daniel Sender serves on the performance faculty in UVA's Department of Music and is concertmaster of both the Charlottesville Symphony and Charlottesville Opera. His career has taken him to leading concert venues throughout North America and Europe, including performances at the Kennedy Center, the Smithsonian Museum of American History, the Liszt Academy in Budapest, and the Museum of Fine Arts in Montreal. Since 2017, he has also been a festival artist with the Wintergreen Festival Orchestra.
A two-time Fulbright recipient, Sender was selected as a Fulbright U.S. Scholar for the 2021–22 academic year, during which he taught and performed at Hungary's renowned Liszt Academy and the University of Pécs. His scholarship explores the intersection of Hungarian folk and art music, and his research, publications, and original compositions have earned recognition for bridging academic study and performance. As both a soloist and chamber musician, Sender has appeared with orchestras and ensembles throughout the United States and abroad, with recordings released on the Centaur, Sono Luminus, and Bifrost labels.
