Ming-Hui Kuo & I-Jen Fang

The University of Virginia Department of Music continues its Faculty Artist Series with a performance by internationally acclaimed percussionists Ming-Hui Kuo and I-Jen Fang on Saturday, October 17, at 7:30 p.m. in Old Cabell Hall. This concert is sponsored by the UVA Arts Council, enriching the arts on grounds.

Renowned for their virtuosity, artistry, and commitment to contemporary music, Kuo and Fang have each built distinguished international careers as performers, educators, and advocates for expanding the percussion repertoire. Together, they bring audiences a program that showcases the expressive range, technical brilliance, and musical versatility of today's percussion literature.

Ming-Hui Kuo, Assistant Professor of Percussion at DePauw University, has performed throughout Asia, Europe, North America, and Australia. A former performing member of Taiwan's internationally celebrated Ju Percussion Group, she appeared in more than 500 concerts and toured extensively before establishing herself as a sought-after soloist, chamber musician, and clinician. Kuo has premiered numerous new works for marimba and percussion, recorded with multiple ensembles, and has been recognized for her leadership in percussion education through performances, clinics, and festivals around the world.

I-Jen Fang, Professor of Percussion at the University of Virginia, has earned international recognition as a soloist, chamber musician, orchestral performer, and champion of new music. Described by Fanfare Magazine as an "intrepid percussionist," she has appeared as a soloist and collaborative artist across North America, Europe, Africa, and Asia. A founding member of the Piedmont Duo and former director of the UVA New Music Ensemble, Fang has commissioned and premiered works by numerous contemporary composers while serving as Principal Timpanist and Percussionist of the Charlottesville Symphony.
