New music comes to life through collaboration as the University of Virginia Department of Music presents the Graduate Composers Concert featuring Unheard-of on Friday, February 26th in Old Cabell Hall (time tba).

This free concert showcases a unique collaboration between the members of Unheard-of and graduate composers in the University of Virginia's Composition & Computer Technologies (CCT) program. As part of an annual residency, graduate composers create new works specifically for a visiting ensemble, working closely with the performers throughout the creative process. The concert marks the culmination of this collaboration with the premiere of these newly composed works.

Based in Brooklyn, Unheard-of is a clarinet, violin, cello, and piano quartet dedicated to expanding the possibilities of contemporary music performance. Featuring Ford Fourqurean (clarinet), Matheus Souza (violin), Iva Casian-Lakoš (cello), and Daniel Anastasio (piano), the ensemble creates immersive concert experiences that connect adventurous new music with diverse communities through technology, multimedia, and bold artistic collaboration.

Founded in 2014, Unheard-of has developed a national network of collaborators across artistic disciplines, championing both emerging and established composers while exploring connections between experimental and traditional musical approaches. In addition to performances, the ensemble's work includes educational workshops, residencies, and the Collaborative Composition Initiative (CCI), a summer program supporting emerging composers.

The Graduate Composers Concert reflects the innovative spirit of UVA's CCT program, where students explore the intersection of acoustic composition, electronic media, technology, and interdisciplinary artistic practice. Supported by the Virginia Center for Computer Music and specialized creative facilities, CCT provides composers with opportunities to imagine new forms of musical expression and collaborate with exceptional performers.

Join us for an evening celebrating new ideas, creative partnerships, and the first performances of works created specifically for Unheard-of.

Detailed program information will be available closer to the concert date.
