The University of Virginia Department of Music proudly presents the Distinguished Major Recital of Lauren Kim, piano, on Saturday, April 17, at 3:30pm in Old Cabell Hall.
Lauren Kim is a fourth-year student from Leesburg, VA, majoring in music with a concentration in piano performance and psychology at the University of Virginia. Before coming to UVA, she studied piano for 12 years, and she continued her studies with John Mayhood through college. As a pianist, she has performed at Carnegie Hall's Weill Recital Hall as a two-time first prize winner of the American Protégé International Piano and Strings Competition and was also awarded first prize in the Golden Romantic Era of Romantic Music International Competition. She won the Gertrude Brown Concerto Competition, performing with the Washington Conservatory Orchestra, and has appeared as a featured performer at the Newseum in Washington, D.C. for Human Rights First. Kim has also participated in the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music Summer Piano Academy where she studied with faculty from one of the nation's leading schools of music. In addition to her work as a pianist, she is an active choral musician, singing with the University Singers, Chamber Singers, and St. Paul's Memorial Church Choir, where she serves as a choral scholar.

This recital is supported by the Charles S. Roberts Scholarship Fund. Established in 2004 by the generosity of Mr. Alan Y. Roberts ('64) and Mrs. Sally G. Roberts, the Charles S. Roberts Scholarship Fund underwrites the private lessons and recital costs for undergraduate music majors giving a recital in their fourth year as part of a distinguished major program in music.
