UVA Jazz Ensemble: Songs, Fables, & Stories
The University of Virginia Department of Music proudly presents the UVA Jazz Ensemble in a special performance titled Songs, Fables, & Stories on Saturday, April 25, 2026, at 8:00 p.m. in Old Cabell Hall.
Directed by UVA Director of Jazz Sharlel Cassity, the concert will feature an evening of dynamic big band jazz inspired by narrative, imagination, and musical storytelling. Audiences can expect a rich and engaging program that blends classic jazz traditions with contemporary influences, brought to life by the ensemble’s vibrant sound and expressive energy.
The performance will also feature internationally acclaimed percussionist Jovia Armstrong, whose artistry adds a compelling rhythmic dimension to the program.
Join us for an unforgettable evening of jazz that celebrates storytelling through music.
Giving two major concerts a year in Old Cabell Hall, and various extra performances, the Jazz Ensemble is an extended big band that includes flutes, vocalists, and, sometimes, other instruments not normally associated with big band music.
