Violinist Claire Youn Wins 2025–2026 Charlottesville Symphony Concerto Competition

Nov 20, 2025

The Charlottesville Symphony at the University of Virginia is proud to announce that violinist Claire Youn has been named the winner of the 2025–2026 Charlottesville Symphony Concerto Competition. Youn, a standout musician recognized for her expressive artistry, earned top honors after an impressive performance during the annual competition held earlier this month.

As part of her award, Youn will appear as soloist with the Charlottesville Symphony on February 14–15, 2026 at Old Cabell Hall and the Paramount Theater. She will perform Camille Saint-Saëns’s Introduction and Rondo Capriccioso in A minor, Op. 28, a virtuosic showpiece beloved for its lyricism, fire, and flair. Her performance will be featured on the Symphony’s Masterworks programs under the direction of Music Director Benjamin Rous.

"Claire has been one of our student leaders for years. In the crowded field of this year's concerto competition, her performance stood out, and we are glad to share her talents with the Symphony audience,” said Benjamin Rous, Music Director of the Charlottesville Symphony.

The Charlottesville Symphony Concerto Competition is open to student musicians at the University of Virginia and is designed to showcase emerging talent while providing the opportunity to perform with a professional orchestra.

Tickets for the February concerts are available at the UVA Box office for the Saturday Concert and the Paramount Box Office for the Sunday Concert or at charlottesvillesymphony.org
