9th Wonder
In partnership with the McIntire Music Department, the UVA Music Arts Board will host 9th Wonder, a Grammy Award Winning Producer, Record Executive, DJ, College Lecturer, and Social Activist, for its Spring 2017 Artist Residency. 9th Wonder's musical collaborators have included megastars as Jay-Z, Destiny's Child, Mary J Blige, Erykah Badu, Ludacris, and most recently Anderson .Paak. The residency will feature various student workshops and performances, as well as opportunities for students to work in close contact with 9th Wonder, and will culminate in a performance by 9th Wonder at the Jefferson. The residency will also open a space for students to reflect on the intermeshing of hip-hop, race, and music in a broader context. The Arts Board of the University of Virginia is a student-run board whose mission it is to present an outstanding artist, performance, and/or exhibition each year in a three-year rotation that includes music, visual arts, and drama.
The program was created to raise students’ awareness of and appreciation for the arts. Its purpose is three-fold:
- To produce an arts event that will raise awareness of the arts and be an event that will have an impact on the student body,
- To involve students in the presentation and administration of a national/international-scale arts event and residency, and
- To provide an opportunity for students to interact with the arts presenter(s) selected to perform/present/exhibit.
The 2017 UVA Music Arts Board includes: Wesley Diener, Walter Floyd (Undergraduate co-chair), Ben Harney, Marc Jones, Matthew Leon, Ryan Maguire (Graduate co-chair), Aidan O'Keefe, Marie Olavere, Elizabeth Roden, Sam Roller, Isabella VanKesteren, and Lucy Wu.
