The Virginia Women's Chorus presents their fortieth annual Candlelight Concerts on Friday December 2nd 2023 at 6pm and Saturday, December 2nd at 3:30pm.  Both concerts will be held at the University Baptist Church located at  1223 West Main Street in Charlottesville, VA .

You will not want to miss these sublime candlelight concerts with harp on December 2 and 3! Step into the wonder and celebration of this glorious season with the Virginia Women’s Chorus 40th Annual Candlelight Concerts. These concerts have been called Charlottesville’s best-kept secret and welcome many returning listeners each year who leave imbued with the true spirit of the season. They are often called “more than a concert”!

The Chorus will present lovely, reflective music as well as more popular and well-known music, including Mary, Did You Know?, In the Bleak Midwinter, and White Winter Hymnal. This concert will feature professional harpist Anastasia Jellison who will also play prelude music, so come early to enjoy. Selections from A Ceremony of Carols (Britten) and Choral Hymns from the Rig Veda (Holst) will form the centerpiece of the concert. Well-balanced in its fun and more serious selections, the program showcases the variety of repertoire that has become a hallmark of the Virginia Women’s Chorus.

These concerts have often sold out so it is advised that tickets be purchased early to ensure seating. There has been a change in time for the Friday evening concert. Tickets for Friday, December 1, at 6 PM may be purchased here, and Saturday, December 2, at 3:30 PM here.  Online sales will end 24 hours before each concert. If available, tickets may be purchased at the door.

The Virginia Women’s Chorus is committed to excellence in the performance of classical, contemporary and diverse music from the challenging choral literature for treble voices. The Chorus seeks to inspire and enrich others through the choral art form.

The Chorus is unique in that it is a student-run organization with a hired professional conductor. It is comprised of undergraduate and graduate students from numerous degree programs. Several singers from the Charlottesville community have participated in the Chorus as well.

VWC is affiliated with the University of Virginia Department of Music. Although this organization has members who are University of Virginia students and may have University employees associated or engaged in its activities and affairs, the organization is not a part of or an agency of the University. It is a separate and independent organization which is responsible for and manages its own activities and affairs. The University does not direct, supervise or control the organization and is not responsible for the organization’s contracts, acts or omissions.
