African Music and Dance

Telling Y/OUR Stories
May 3, 2016 - 9:30pm
Hunter Smith Band Building
Free

A combined concert and all-out African dance party! Featuring traditional Ghanaian Ewe dances with Master guest artist Nani Agbeli, and fun dance party tunes including Azonto. Woven into the evening are our songs and dances from the rainforest of the Central African Republic, learned and re-taught to UVA students by Ensemble by director Prof. Michelle Kisliuk. This year an added treat is the electronic production and DJ input from Prof. Noel Lobley’s Global Beats course, rounding out the evening with dancing for everyone! The theme is Telling Y/OUR Stories, making this music meaningful in our own context, celebrating graduating seniors on the last day of classes, inviting the community, and in the African way, facing bereavement and endings of all kinds by singing and dancing in an affirmation of life, Come join us. Free parking next door in the Culbreth Garage.
