Cavalier Marching Band

Cavalier Marching Band, MUEN 3620, Class number: 10915
Meets: Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays, 6:00-8:15pm, Hunter Smith Band Building

The Cavalier Marching Band is comprised of over 300 dedicated members. There are no fees associated with marching band participation, only a passion for representing UVA and for the marching arts. The band is an integral part of the gameday experience in and around Scott Stadium with performances at all home football games, occasional regular-season away games, post-season bowl games, and at additional sporting events on Grounds. Rehearsals are held twice a week during non-game weeks, with an additional rehearsal each Friday evening before a home football game. Family, friends, and the community are encouraged to attend Friday evening rehearsals.

The band includes feature twirlers, color guard, woodwinds, brass, battery & mallet percussion. Remarkably, the CMB is comprised almost entirely of non-music majors who represent nearly every major and School at the University. Student leadership is a revered tradition, with approximately 200 students filling various leadership roles in the CMB. Leadership opportunities include positions such as drum major, section leader, drill instructor, and various support staff roles.  All members are issued professional-level instruments and equipment to be used throughout their tenure in the band.

The CMB has built a reputation for its highly energetic and crowd-pleasing performances. The band is proud to present a new, fully-memorized halftime show at each home football game, providing students and fans the opportunity to experience many different musical styles and themes each fall.

The students of the Cavalier Marching Band enjoy the thrill and challenge of performing in front of large crowds, appearing on national television, and representing the University of Virginia. The members of the band proudly wear the orange and blue and are ambassadors for the University on and off the field. Cavalier Marching Band is housed in the Hunter Smith Band Building 180 Culbreth Road.
