David Dunn

The McIntire Department of Music colloquium will feature composer, artist, and bio-acoustic researcher David Dunn on Friday, October 13, 2017 in 107 Old Cabell Hall. This event is free and open to the public.

Composer David Dunn will present his work designing and using unique diy audio devices made to reveal otherwise hidden sound worlds. Examples will include research that has led to a recently patented invention using sound to disrupt the life cycle of wood-infesting insects. The presentation will also discuss current work on large-scale sound monitoring of ecosystems.

David Dunn is a composer, artist, and audio engineer. As a composer, he primarily engages in site-specific interactions or research-oriented activities. Much of his work is focused upon the development of listening strategies and technologies for environmental sound monitoring in both aesthetic and scientific contexts. Dunn is internationally known for his articulation of frameworks that combine the arts and sciences towards practical environmental activism and problem solving. Currently he is a professor at the University of California, Santa Cruz. His compositions and soundscape recordings have appeared in over 500 international forums, concerts, broadcasts, and exhibitions.
