Trenley Anderson, Distinguished Major Clarinet RecitalTrenley Anderson, a fourth year music and studio art double major at the University of Virginia, will present a clarinet recital on Saturday, April 14 at 3:30pm in Old Cabell Hall. The recital, part of the McIntire Department of Music’s Distinguished Majors Program, is free and open to the public and will be followed by a reception in the lobby of Old Cabell Hall. Trenley presents this performance as the culmination of her four years of study with clarinet teachers Nancy Garlick, Rob Patterson, and Tasha Warren.

The recital will explore the versatility and expressive capacity of the clarinet with works written in the classical genre that find inspiration in other genres. The program includes Aaron Copland’s Clarinet Concerto, performed with orchestra, and Johannes Brahms’s beloved Clarinet Quintet. The recital will feature cellist Sam Bacharach, conductor and violinist Eli Chen, violist Lesley Hogg, violinist Emily Moore, and other musicians from the Charlottesville and UVa community.

Trenley has performed with the Charlottesville and University Symphony Orchestra, the Palladian Chamber Orchestra, Musicians on Call, and various other groups in Charlottesville. This past summer, as a College Arts Scholar, she attended l’Academie d’Arts Orford in Montreal, Canada. She has performed as principal clarinet for Opera on the James in Lynchburg, VA, and last year she had the privilege of serving as Music Director of Opera Viva. After graduation, Trenley intends to further her studies in clarinet and musicology and pursue her passion and vision for music.

This recital is supported by the Charles S. Roberts Scholarship Fund. Established in 2004 by the generosity of Mr. Alan Y. Roberts ('64) and Mrs. Sally G. Roberts, the Charles S. Roberts Scholarship Fund underwrites the private lessons and recital costs for undergraduate music majors giving a recital in their fourth year as part of a distinguished major program in music.
