Department of Music

The McIntire Department of Music is pleased to present the traditional Family Weekend Choral Showcase - Saturday October 24th, 7:00 pm in Old Cabell Hall on the famed Lawn at the University of Virginia. 

The concert will feature performances by several of the University's choral ensembles. The University Singers, UVA Chamber Singers, Virginia Glee Club, and Virginia Women’s Chorus will all perform selections from their 2015 repertoire - including Eric Whitacre’s stunning “Sainte-Chapelle,” Chesnokov’s beautiful “Spaseniye,” the folksong “Shenandoah,” a work by contemporary composer Ola Gjeilo, and an arrangement of Arlen’s “Somewhere over the Rainbow.” The evening will close with a joint performance of Mendelssohn’s “He Watching Over Israel” from Elijah, as well as the beloved UVa songs, sung by the combined choruses (nearly 200 voices strong), who will be joined on stage by their alumni. 

The Virginia Women’s Chorus is conducted by KaeRenae Mitchell, the Virginia Glee Club is led by conductor Frank Albinder, and the University Singers and UVA Chamber Singers are directed by UVA faculty conductor Michael Slon.

Old Cabell Hall is located on the south end of UVA's historic lawn, directly opposite the Rotunda.  (map) Parking is available in the central grounds parking garage on Emmet Street, in the C1 parking lot off McCormick Rd, and in the parking lots at the UVA Corner.  Handicap parking is available in the small parking lot adjacent to Bryan Hall.
