Distinguished Major Recital - Jingqi Zhu, piano and conducting
Jingqi Zhu is a 4th year student, majoring in music and statistics. She has studied under Mimi Tung since her second year and joined the performance concentration program a year after her study. She is hugely grateful to study with Prof. Tung who immensely helped and inspired her to find the deepest love and passion for music and the strong calling to pursue it as a profession for the rest of her life. During her time at UVA, she has participated in Charlottesville Symphony, University Singers, Chamber Singers, Baroque Orchestra, and Chamber Ensemble, collaborated with many other instrumentalists in performances, joined Oberlin Cooper Piano Festival over the summer and played master classes for and took lessons with Peter Takács, Robert Shannon, Haewon Song, Daniel Shapiro, Victor Rosenbaum, Stephen Drury, Ensemble Berlin PianoPercussion, etc.
The recital will feature a dazzling piano program: Mozart Piano Sonata in A minor, K310, Chopin Ballade No.1 in G minor, Op.23, Ginastera Danzas Argentinas, Schöenberg Six Little Piano Pieces, Op.19, Liszt Mephisto Waltze No.1 S.514, and also a conducting repertoire- Mozart Missa Brevis in C major, K220, which will feature a student chamber orchestra and chamber choir. Those pieces are not only some greatest piano repertoire of all time, but most importantly the ones that are closest to her heart.
This recital is supported by the Charles S. Roberts Scholarship Fund. Established in 2004 by the generosity of Mr. Alan Y. Roberts ('64) and Mrs. Sally G. Roberts, the Charles S. Roberts Scholarship Fund underwrites the private lessons and recital costs for undergraduate music majors giving a recital in their fourth year as part of a distinguished major program in music.
