Lecturer (Oboe)
The University of Virginia's McIntire Department of Music seeks applications for a Lecturer in Oboe. This is a half-time position and duties include performing as the Principal Oboe in the Charlottesville Symphony at the University of Virginia, coaching orchestra oboe sectionals, performing in the Albemarle Ensemble faculty wind quintet, and additional performance duties (such as chamber music). The Lecturer in Oboe will also develop a studio of undergraduate oboe students (approximately 10) and these private lessons are compensated beyond the half-time salary. Many other performance opportunities are also available to Performance Faculty.
The U.Va Music Department supports a vibrant performance program featuring a wide range of ensembles such as new music, jazz, wind ensemble and many more. In addition the Department offers innovative programs in Composition and Computer Technologies, and Critical and Comparative Studies. We are very interested in attracting excellent orchestral performance colleagues who can also interact with these areas of the Department in some way.
Review of applications will begin on March 18, 2017, and applications will be accepted until the position is filled. The anticipated appointment start date is July 25, 2017. Applicants must have a Master's in music or an M.F.A. by the date of appointment; a Doctorate in music is preferred. Successful teaching experience at the university level and evidence of significant experience as a solo and ensemble performer is desired.
