The McIntire Department of Music is pleased to host the innovative Talujon Percussion Quartet for a residency this February. Among other events around the department, the ensemble will present a concert of new music on February 4th at 8 p.m. in Old Cabell Hall. This free performance will feature the premiere of works expressly written for the ensemble by five of the University's doctoral music students: Erik Deluca, Megan England, Lanier Sammons, Yuri Spitsyn, and Jonathan Zorn.
The Talujon Percussion Quartet, founded in 1991, has been described by the New York Times as possessing an“edgy, unflagging energy.” The New York-based ensemble is devoted to expanding the contemporary percussion repertoire and has performed throughout the world as part of events like the Bang on a Can Marathon, the Taipei Lantern Festival, the Percussive Art Society’s International Convention, and the Carnegie Hall Neighborhood Concerts Series. This will be Talujon’s second visit to the University of Virginia.
