From the warmth of a Bach sonata to the dazzling virtuosity of a trumpet duet, the final concert of the 2013 Chamber Music Festival is certain to please all palettes. On Sunday, February 10 at 1:30 pm, U.Va. faculty members Daniel Sender, violin, and Paul Neebe, trumpet, will collaborate with some of the region's most talented musicians. Sender will be joined by Kenneth Slowik, Artistic Director of the Smithsonian Chamber Music Society, on harpsichord. Together, they will perform Jean-Marie Leclair's "Sonata in D Major for Violin and Continuo" and J.S. Bach's "Sonata No.1 in b minor for Violin and Harpsichord." Sender will also collaborate with pianist Shelby Sender on Edward Elgar's "Violin Sonata in e minor, Op. 82." Paul Neebe will join forces with Jason Crafton, Assistant Professor of Trumpet at Virginia Tech, and Tracy Cowden, Associate Professor of Piano and Vocal Coach at Virginia Tech. Together, they will present works for two trumpets and piano, including music by Herbert L. Clarke, Léo Delibes, and Joseph Turrin. Also included on the program are former U.Va. faculty member Carl Roskott's "Concerto for Trumpet," and David Macbride's "Echo Canon" for two trumpets. Neebe, Crafton, and Cowden will also present "Double Entendre," a newly composed work by Virginia Tech composer Kent Holliday that was written for the trio.
