HerndonThe University of Virginia McIntire Department of Music presents a recital and masterclass by Hillary Herndon, Assistant Professor of Viola at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, Friday, April 13, 2012, 3:30-6pm in Old Cabell Hall Room 107 on the grounds at the University of Virginia. This masterclass is supported by the Eleanor Shea Music Trust will feature Hillary Herndon and pianist Bernadette Lo.

Hillary Herndon is quickly making her mark on the viola world with her research, teaching and performing. A dedicated researcher, Ms. Herndon uncovers and performs works of composers who would otherwise be forgotten. She is currently in production recording a 2-cd set of forgotten works of women composers in the 20th century. Through this research, Ms. Herndon is helping preserve and discover the wealth of viola repertoire available.

As the Assistant Professor of Viola with the University of Tennessee Knoxville, Ms. Herndon maintains a thriving studio of violists who have continued on to professional orchestras such as Knoxville Symphony and well respected conservatories like the Peabody Institute. She has presented masterclasses around the country, serves on the summer faculty of Round Top Festival Institute and the Sewanee Summer Music Festival and has published many articles about her pedagogical philosophy in the Journals of the American String Teacher Association and American Viola Society.
