The University of Virginia McIntire Department of Music presents the fourth of six concerts in the UVA Chamber Music Series on Monday, January 25th, 2016 at 8:00 pm in Old Cabell Hall. The UVA Chamber Music Series brings an array of musicians to provide professional performances to the University and the central Virginia community. Directed by Kelly Sulick, the programs offer a wide range of works that are sure to entertain, educate and enthrall.

Trombonist Nathaniel Lee presents an innovative program of chamber music for the trombone. Joined by other members of The American Trombone Quartet, Lee will present works by Wagner, Jan Koetsier with The American Trombone Quartet and John Mayhood, piano, Konagaya and Kelsey.

Nathaniel is the Lecturer of Trombone at the University of Virginia and the Principal Trombone for the Charlottesville Symphony. He earned his Master of Music degree in Trombone Performance from New England Conservatory and a Bachelor of Music Performance degree from Virginia Commonwealth University. Before arriving at the University of Virginia Nathaniel was pursuing a Doctor of Musical Arts degree in Trombone Performance and Brass Pedagogy at the University of Iowa. In addition to his duties at UVa and the Charlottesville Symphony, Nathaniel maintains an active freelance career having performed with the Richmond Symphony, Ash Lawn Opera Festival, Opera on the James, Boston Philharmonic, Virginia Oratorio Society, the Waynesboro Symphony, the Virginia Brass and the Virginia Sinfonietta.

Founded in 2015, The American Trombone Quartet, seeks to champion new music, whether that is by sharing recently composed works with new audiences, commissioning new works, or by adapting innovative musical works from various genres, each avenue leads us towards our goal, which is to share the art and joy of collaborative chamber music with live audiences. The four founding members; Nathaniel Lee, William Mann, Zsolt Szabo, and Jemmie Robertson, have come together from diverse musical and pedagogical backgrounds to advocate for music education and audience engagement. To this end we happily devote ourselves to both performing and teaching in residencies.
