University of Virginia Choral Showcase at Old Cabell Hall
2007 Choral Showcase
The traditional Family Weekend Choral Showcase will feature the UVa University Singers, UVa Chamber Singers, Virginia Women’s Chorus and Virginia Glee Club in concert on Saturday October 25th, 2008 at 7:00 pm in Old Cabell Hall. The concert will feature selections from all four ensembles’ 2008 repertoire – including spirituals, a Muskogee Indian chant, and a Sephardic wedding song, pieces by Tchesnokov, Whitacre, Mozart, and Holst, and an arrangement of the popular standard “A Nightingale Sang in Berkeley Square.”

The evening will close with a joint performance of Leonard Bernstein’s “Make Our Garden Grow” from Candide in honor of the Bernstein 90th anniversary year, as well as the beloved UVa songs, sung by the choruses, more than 170 voices strong.

The Virginia Women’s Chorus is an auditioned forty-member choral ensemble conducted by KaeRenae Mitchell. The Virginia Glee Club, founded in 1871, is led by conductor Frank Albinder. Coming off their 50th anniversary season, the University Singers – and their select subset, the UVa Chamber Singers – are directed by UVa faculty conductor Michael Slon.

Tickets are $10 for the general public and $5 for students and are available at the Cabell Hall Box office or by calling (434) 924-3984.
