Immortal composer Ludwig van Beethoven was a nature lover who thrived on getting away from the noise and bustle of city life.  Through performance and conversation, Benjamin Rous and 26 members of the Charlottesville Symphony lead listeners on a ramble through the countryside outside Vienna as Beethoven depicted it in one of his best known symphonic works, Symphony No. 6 which he called “Pastoral Symphony or Recollections of Country Life.”

For nearly a half-century, the Charlottesville Symphony at the University of Virginia has  been recognized as one of Central Virginia’s leading music ensembles and one of Charlottesville-Albermarle’s most significant cultural institutions.  The orchestra is admired for exciting performances and commitment to inclusive education and community engagement programs for people of all ages.  Professional musicians, talented community members and  UVA students from a wide variety of academic disciplines perform 15 Classical Masterworks, Family Holiday, Youth, and Pops concerts at  Old Cabell Hall, the Martin Luther King, Jr. Performing Arts  Center and the Paramount Theater each season.  In recent years,  Music Director Benjamin Rous has ushered in a new era of artistry, innovation and digital accessibility.    Visit cvillesymphony.org for more information.
