UVA Baroque Orchestra
The University of Virginia Department of Music presents the Baroque Orchestra on Friday, April 12th, 2024 at 8pm in Old Cabell Hall. Tickets are $10 for general admission, $9 UVA Faculty & Staff, $5 students, and free for UVA Students who reserve in advance. Tickets are available at the Arts Box Office by visiting artsboxoffice.virginia.edu, calling (434) 924-3376 or at Old Cabell Hall one hour prior to the performance.
The program will include late-Baroque works for small ensemble by Georg Philipp Telemann, Giuseppe Sammartini, Elisabeth Jacquet de La Guerre, and music from the New World by the Mexican composer Juan Corchado.
The Baroque Orchestra, directed by faculty violinist and Director of Performance, David Sariti, presents dynamic, vital performances of music from the 17th and 18th centuries with the instruments and performance practices for which it was written, without a conductor. Period instruments at Baroque pitch from the University’s extensive collection are used, and students receive personal instruction on their specific techniques. Concertgoers can expect to hear music by familiar and unfamiliar composers alike, presented in a way that questions modern perceptions of music performance.
Old Cabell Hall is located on the south end of UVA’s historic lawn, directly opposite the Rotunda. (map) Parking is available in the central grounds parking garage on Emmet Street, in the C1 parking lot off McCormick Rd, and in the parking lots at the UVA Corner. Handicap parking is available in the small parking lot adjacent to Bryan Hall.
All programs are subject to change.
