In celebration of its 50 years bringing the joy of music to audiences in central Virginia, the Oratorio Society of Virginia, in collaboration with UVA's McIntire Department of Music, presents "Notes from Quotes", a symposium for young musicians led by Adolphus Hailstork, Eminent Scholar and Professor of Music at Old Dominion University, Michael Slon, Associate Professor and Director of Choral Music at UVA, and Kate Tamarkin, Professor Emeritus at UVA, Conductor Laureate of the Charlottesville Symphony at UVA.

The symposium will take place on Thursday, May 24th from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. at Old Cabell Hall. High school students from across the region will engage in small group composing sessions, have a chance to interact with these accomplished musicians, and they will attend the next evening's 50th Anniversary Gala Concert at 7:00 p.m. at Old Cabell Hall. This concert will feature a commissioned work by Adolphus Hailstork titled The World Called, based on UVA Commonwealth Professor of English and former U.S. Poet Laureate's Rita Dove's poem Testimonial. The concert will also feature Mozart's Mass in C minor.

There are still opportunities for high school age musicians to participate in the symposium. Please contact coordinator Diane Kingsbury at diane.kingsbury@outlook.com.
