The Charlottesville Symphony at the University of Virginia announces an exciting new concert, “Pops at the Paramount” on Saturday, June 4, 7:30pm, at the Paramount Theater on Charlottesville’s Downtown Pedestrian Mall.

Music Director Kate Tamarkin conducts the full symphony orchestra in a blockbuster program that includes hits from “Les Miserables” and “Star Wars: Episode VII: The Force Awakens,” a suite from the PBS hit series, “Downton Abbey,” Beatles tunes, selections from “South Pacific,” the Overture to Leonard Bernstein’s “Candide,” a tribute to Irving Berlin and more.

Highlighting the evening is George Gershwin’s “Rhapsody in Blue” with Jeremy Thompson as the piano soloist.  A local audience favorite as both an organist and a pianist, Thompson is the Director of Music at First Presbyterian Church in Charlottesville.   He has performed to universal acclaim in recital and concerto settings throughout North America.  Recent performances include concerto performances with the Montreal Chamber Orchestra, Symphony New Brunswick and the Western Piedmont Symphony Orchestra as well as recitals in Montreal, Philadelphia, Reading, Hamilton, Potsdam, Louisville, Raleigh, Greensboro and Winston- Salem.

“Pops at the Paramount” is sponsored by a lead gift from Elizabeth Natoli, as well as Glenmore Country Club, Joe and Elizabeth LeVaca, Wegmans and the Paramount Theater.

Single tickets are priced at $25-$95.  The $95 ticket includes an After Party with Music Director Kate Tamarkin and guest artist Jeremy Thompson in the theater’s Balcony Lounge immediately following the performance.  Single tickets may be purchased in person at The Paramount Theater Box Office from 10:00am-2:00pm, Monday-Friday, by calling (434) 979-1333 during those same hours or online at www.theparamount.net
