CHARLOTTESVILLE SYMPHONY ANNOUNCES 2022-23 CONCERT SEASON

A violin concerto, a Beethoven symphony, a choral masterwork, folk tunes, dances, a sonic exploration of the cosmos and more! – Charlottesville Symphony Music Director Benjamin Rous has curated a 2022-23 season that will delight nearly every musical taste.

Emerging from the COVID-19 pandemic, the Charlottesville Symphony at the University of Virginia presents a full season of full-length concerts by the full orchestra: five pairs of exciting Masterworks concerts at UVA’s Old Cabell Hall and the Martin Luther King, Jr. Performing Arts Center at Charlottesville High School, and one pair of the always popular Family Holiday Concerts with the UVA University Singers and conductor Michael Slon.

Charlottesville Symphony in Old Cabell by Keith PerryPrincipal Bassoon Elizabeth Roberts and Principal Flute Kelly Sulick shine in concertos by Johann Hummel and Christopher Rouse, respectively. The UVA University Singers join the orchestra in Johannes Brahms’ Schicksalslied (Song of Destiny). Paul Ghun Kim guest conducts the orchestra in Dvořák’s beloved "New World Symphony" on a program that also features rising star Brendon Elliott performing Beethoven’s Violin Concerto in D Major. All-orchestral favorites include Beethoven’s Symphony No. 6 (“Pastoral”), Ravel’s Alborada del gracioso, the Capriccio Espagnol of Rimsky-Korsakov and Sinfonia (for Orbiting Spheres) by Grammy-nominated Missy Mazzoli.
