You will not want to miss these sublime candlelight concerts! Step into the wonder and celebration of this glorious season with the Virginia Women’s Chorus 38th Annual Candlelight Concerts. These concerts have been called Charlottesville’s best-kept secret and welcome many returning listeners each year who leave imbued with the true spirit of the season.
These concerts will feature the well-known A Ceremony of Carols by Benjamin Britten, accompanied by Anastasia Jellison, professional harpist. Additionally, the Chorus will present lovely, reflective music as well as more popular and well-known music, including Deck the Hall, Sleigh Ride, and See, Amid the Winter’s Snow. Well-balanced in its fun and more serious selections, the program showcases the variety that has become a hallmark of the Virginia Women’s Chorus.
The Chorus is unique in that it is a student-run organization which hires a professional conductor. This is the 26th year under the direction of Katherine (“KaeRenae”) Mitchell. Virginia Women’s Chorus is composed of undergraduate and graduate students from numerous degree programs and provides a nurturing and fun community for students and community members.
These concerts have often sold out or have been close to capacity and it is advised that tickets be purchased early to ensure seating. Tickets for Friday, December 3, at 8 PM may be purchased here; and Saturday, December 4, at 3:30 PM is sold out. Online sales will end at 5 PM on the day before each concert.
