The Virginia Women’s Chorus presents “Reflect and Envision: a celebration of 45 years of women and music at UVA” on Saturday, April 18 at 3 p.m. in Old Cabell Hall at the University of Virginia has been cancelled.

Conducted by Katherine (“KaeRenae”) Mitchell, this ensemble is celebrating its forty-fifth year history with classical, folk, and contemporary music from around the world, including the island of Hispanola (modern day Haiti and the Dominican Republic). Music on the program includes classical selections by Schubert, Casals, and Walker. Well-balanced in its fun and more serious selections, the program showcases the variety that has become a hallmark of the Virginia Women’s Chorus. The concert will feature a cappella music as well as music with violin, percussion, and piano accompaniment.

The first half of the concert features alumnae from across the nation, including California, Washington, New York, and Massachusetts, along with the current Virginia Women’s Chorus members. The concert will feature several new arrangements - How Can I Keep from Singing and Let us Keep the Circle Open - created by the director for this special occasion. The Virginia Belles will conclude the first half with several entertaining selections. The Belles is the oldest female a cappella group at UVA, and was founded by KaeRenae Mitchell in 1977 as a select group of women from the UVA Women’s Chorus.

The audience will hear new arrangements of Scarborough Fair and Feeling Good as well as other contemporary favorites. The Virginia Men’s Glee Club will be joining the Chorus for You Are the New Day, made popular by the King’s Singers. The concert will conclude with the alumnae rejoining current members in singing the Chorus’ signature song, Simple Gifts.

Tickets are $17 General , $12 Seniors and VWC Alumnae, and  $7 Students. Tickets are available at the UVA Arts Box Office in the Culbreth building, online at http://tickets.artsboxoffice.virginia.edu or by calling (434) 924-3376. All events are subject to change.
