The Charlottesville Symphony at the University of Virginia continues its 2013-2014 season, entitled A MUSICAL KALEIDOSCOPE, on Saturday, March 22, 8pm at Old Cabell Hall on the U.Va Grounds, and Sunday, March 23, 3:30 p.m., at Monticello High School in Charlottesville.

The Charlottesville Symphony at the University of Virginia programed a season of fairy tales and parables, folksongs and ballads, betrayals and reconciliations, beggars and lovers - luminescent gems  of symphonic color and sound to spark your imagination and stir your soul.

Conducted by Music Director Kate Tamarkin, this concert includes Johannes Brahms Variations on a Theme of Joseph Haydn, Op.56a;  Launy Grondahl Concerto for Trombone and Orchestra Nathan Dishman, Trombone; Antonio Garcia London Town Fantasy—World Premiere Nathan Dishman, Trombone; Franz Joseph Haydn Symphony No. 104 in D major, “London”

Nathan Dishman received a Bachelor of Music in education with a jazz emphasis from the University of Northern Iowa.  He was awarded the Master of Music and Doctor of Musical Arts degrees in performance from the University of Missouri-Kansas City Conservatory of Music and Dance where he was an Ovation Scholarship Recipient.   He is a former member of the acclaimed Fountain City Brass Band, recently named champions in the 2007, 2008, 2009, and 2010 North American Brass Band Championships. His primary teachers include JoDee Davis, Roger Oyster, Nancy Vogt, Paul Pollard, Paul McKee, and Bruce Tychinski. 

Nathan serves as principal trombone of the Charlottesville Symphony at the University of Virginia and is on the faculty of the University of Virginia. He is on leave from the University of Virginia for the 2013-2014 academic year.

Know the Score pre-concert lectures will be presented 45 minutes before each concert.  Free of charge, these informative and entertaining lectures by McIntire Department of Music Chairman and Associate Professor of Music Richard Will offer both novice and experienced patrons a deeper appreciation of the performances.  Friday’s lecture will take place in Minor Hall; Sunday’s lecture will be held in the Forum at Monticello High School. 

Free parking is available in the U.Va Central Grounds Parking Garage, located on Emmet  Street, on Saturday night and at the high school on Sunday afternoon.  Both venues are wheelchair accessible.

Tickets are priced at $10-$40 for adults, and $10 for students.  U.Va students may request one complimentary ticket in advance.  Tickets may be purchased at The University of Virginia Arts Box Office, (434) 924-3376, 12:00-5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday in the lobby of the Drama Building at 109 Culbreth Road, or on-line at www.artsboxoffice.virginia.edu.
