The recital is the result of Julie's four years of cello lessons with her teacher, Adam Carter. Her program spans a wide variety of musical periods, featuring the music of Popper, Boccherini, Cassado, and Haydn. Accompanying Julie for the recital is pianist Peter D’elia.
While at UVA, Julie has been able to take advantage of several musical opportunities. In the last three years Julie has participated in several master classes from cellists such as Timothy Eddy and Jason McComb. In summer 2011, Julie attended Aria International Summer Music Academy in South Hadley, Massachusetts. She also participated in UVA’s Summer Chamber Music Festival in summer of 2012. During her third year at UVA, she began teaching cello. In addition to playing with a variety of chamber ensembles during her time at UVA—most recently a cello quartet—Julie has been a member of the Charlottesville and University Symphony Orchestra for the past four years.
This recital is supported by the Charles S. Roberts Scholarship Fund. Established in 2004 by the generosity of Mr. Alan Y. Roberts ('64) and Mrs. Sally G. Roberts, the Charles S. Roberts Scholarship Fund underwrites the private lessons and recital costs for undergraduate music majors giving a recital in their fourth year as part of a distinguished major program in music.
