Rotunda Dome Room
Free

The UVA Flute Ensemble is pleased to present its fall concert, “Time and Place,” on Sunday, November 10 at 1:00 pm in the Dome Room of the Rotunda. The UVA Flute Ensemble will transport listeners on a trip around the globe through their musical exploration of place. The ensemble will perform musical representations of stunning sites and unique spaces throughout time, taking listeners from Fingal’s Cave in Scotland to the pueblo cliff dwellings of Mesa Verda National Park, and through the streets of Chicago then back home again to the Shenandoah Valley. The group will also perform three world premiere flute duets by UVA composition students Cameron Church, Kate Sorge, and Mattias Zuffoletti! The concert features music by Cameron Church, Ruben Flores, Stephen Lias, Ricky Lombardo, Felix Mendelssohn, Peter Senchuk, Mary Jane Simpson, Kate Sorge, and Mattias Zuffoletti. The concert is free and open to the public.

The University of Virginia’s Rotunda was designed by Thomas Jefferson as the architectural and academic heart of the University’s community of scholars. He named the University’s original buildings the “Academical Village.” As the phrase suggests, the Academical Village is based on the Jeffersonian principle that learning is a lifelong process, and that interaction between faculty and students is vital to the pursuit of knowledge. Jefferson modeled the Rotunda after the Pantheon, a second-century temple in Rome. Construction began in 1822 and was completed in 1826, shortly after Jefferson’s death on July 4 of that year. Together with Monticello, the Academical Village is designated as a UNESCO World Heritage site.

Parking is on the street or in one of the many parking lots & garages on "the Corner" or in the Central Grounds Parking Garage. The Charlottesville Free Trolly stops in front of the Rotunda on University Avenue.
