Lauren Lee will present her distinguished major violin recital on Sunday, March 15th at 3:30pm in Old Cabell Hall. Lauren will be performing Mozart’s e minor Sonata, the Chaconne by J. S. Bach, Brahms’ G major Sonata, and Piazzolla’s Le Grande Tango.
Lauren is a fourth-year double major in music and biochemistry. She has been playing the violin for fourteen years. She is currently studying with David Colwell, and her previous teachers include Bill Wassum and Bonnie Warner. She has also worked closely with Ross Winter, David Sariti, and Mimi Tung. She has performed in the Charlottesville and University Symphony Orchestra, First Year Players, Opera Viva, Heritage Festival Theatre Orchestra, Beyond the Notes, and in various chamber ensembles. Lauren has been involved in Musicians on Call, a volunteer organization that sends musicians to the U.Va. Hospital lobby to create a warm environment. After graduation, Lauren plans on remaining active as a musician while pursuing a career in medicine.
Sam Zhao is a first-year student at the University of Virginia School of Medicine. He graduated from UVA in May of 2008 with a BA with High Distinction in Music as well as a BA in Biology. Sam has played the piano for eighteen years, and he has recently been studying with Mimi Tung. In his free time, he is passionately involved in the Arrhythmics, Mulholland Society, and Christian Medical Association. Sam also enjoys playing with his dog, Titan.
This recital is supported by the Charles S. Roberts Scholarship Fund. Established in 2004 by the generosity of Mr. Alan Y. Roberts ('64) and Mrs. Sally G. Roberts, the Charles S. Roberts Scholarship Fund underwrites the private lessons and recital costs for undergraduate music majors giving a recital in their fourth year as part of a distinguished major program in music.
