KingOboeNancy Ambrose King, the Professor of Oboe at the University of Michigan, will be holding a Master Class for Oboe at the University of Virginia on Saturday, March 17, 2012, in 107 Old Cabell Hall.

King has performed all over the globe, appearing with orchestras in Russia, Japan, Puerto Rico, England, and more. She has performed as a soloist in Lincoln Center and Carnegie Hall. King has recorded CDs for multiple record companies as well, including a soon-to-be-released mix of 20th Century oboe concertos performed with the Prague Chamber Orchestra. She has been heard on the radio as well, with WQXR in New York, and on NPR's "Performance Today."

Her playing has been called “marvelously evocative, full of character, sultry and seductive, with a soft-spoken, utterly supple tone, and as musically descriptive as any I have heard…a fine exhibition of thoroughly musical oboe playing” by the American Record Guide, along with many other critics.

King graduated from the University of Michigan with a Bachelor of Music degree, and earned a Doctor of Musical Arts, Master of Music, and Performer's Certificate from the Eastman School of Music. She was awarded the 2010 Hall of Fame Award by the School of Music at the University of Michigan.

This recital is supported by the Eleanor Shea Music Trust and is free and open to the public. For more information, call 434.924.3052.
