Demidenko Master Class
On the eve of his performance on Charlottesville's Tuesday Evening Concert Series, celebrated piano virtuoso Nikolai Demidenko will be giving a public masterclass on Monday, April 20, at 7:00 PM in Old Cabell Hall. Mr. Demidenko is a graduate of Moscow’s Gnessin Russian Academy of Music, and was a finalist in both the 1976 Montreal International Music Competition and the 1978 International Tchaikovsky Competition. Known best for his authoritative performances of Russian concerto repertoire such as Prokofiev, Rachmaninov, and Tchaikovsky, Mr. Demidenko has performed with many orchestras throughout the world, including the St. Petersburg Philharmonic, the NCPA Orchestra Beijing, the Orchestre National de France, and the London Mozart Players. Mr. Demidenko was additionally awarded an honorary doctorate in 2014 from the University of Surrey in recognition of his outstanding contributions to both the University and the field of Music.
