UVA Chamber Music Series - Ayn Balija, viola

The University of Virginia Chamber Music Series presents six performances by UVA's outstanding faculty and guest artists in beautiful Old Cabell Hall on the historic Lawn. This annual series brings professional performances to the University and the central Virginia community while providing inspired learning opportunities for students. These intimate concerts are programmed to offer both new and traditional works that will delight the novice as well as the well-tempered critic.  The UVA Chamber Music Series is directed by Kelly Sulick.
 
The 2014-2015 UVA Chamber Music Series season opens with violist Ayn Balija on Monday, October 20th, 2014 at 8pm in Old Cabell Hall.  Joining Ms Balija will be clarinetist Rob Patterson and pianist Shelby Sender.  The program includes Scenes from Romeo and Juliet ballet for Viola and Piano, Op. 64, arranged by Sergei Prokofiev; Trio in E-flat Major for Clarinet, Viola, and Piano, K. 498 "Kegelstatt" by W.A. Mozart and Sonata for Viola and Piano in E-flat Major, Op. 120, No .2 by Johannes Brahms.
 
Violist Ayn Balija is a lecturer of viola at the University of Virginia as well as the Principal Violist of the Charlottesville Symphony Orchestra and performs as a member of the Rivanna String Quartet. She performs as a member of ProMusica Chamber Orchestra of Columbus OH and chairs the Orchestra Committee.  Ms. Balija earned her Bachelor of Music from the Oberlin Conservatory of Music and Master of Music from the Cleveland Institute of Music. Jeffrey Irvine and Peter Slowik continue to be her principal instructors and mentors.  She is currently in the doctoral program at James Madison University studying with Amadi Azikiwe. 
 

The University of Virginia Chamber Music Series is supported by the George F. and Marion E. Jones Endowed Lectureship Fund.

All events take place in the acoustically remarkable Old Cabell Hall.

Old Cabell Hall is located on the south end of UVA's historic lawn, directly opposite the Rotunda.  (map) Parking is available in the central grounds parking garage on Emmet Street, in the C1 parking lot off McCormick Rd, and in the parking lots at the UVA Corner.  Handicap parking is available in the small parking lot adjacent to Bryan Hall.
