Workshop with Gary Carner on Jazz Legend Pepper Adams
- Thursday, November 15, 2012
- B012 Old Cabell Hall
- 3:30pm
On Thursday November 15th at Cville Coffee, at 8 p.m., The Charlottesville Jazz Society presents a live concert and lecture on the music of Pepper Adams.
Author and producer Gary Carner, who just released "Joy Road: the Complete Works of Pepper Adams", a new five-CD set celebrating the works of the baritone saxophone jazz legend, will speak about Adams' music.
In conjunction with the lecture, some of Charlottesville's finest jazz musicians will perform Pepper Adams' music. The band will include
vocalist Stephanie Nakasian, pianist Hod O'Brien, and in the role of Pepper Adams, Jeff Decker on baritone. Pepper Adams, who died in 1986, was featured on numerous classic jazz recordings throughout his 40 year career. He is known for bringing the cumbersome baritone into the blisteringly fast speeds of hard bop like no others had before.
Tickets for the concert are $10 general admission, and $5 for all students.
Mr. Carner will conduct a free master class Thursday afternoon from 3:30 to 5 during John D'earth's improv class.
