Baroque and Beyond
The UVA Department of Music is pleased to present Baroque and Beyond - A Weber Guest event. This performance will take place on November 3rd, 2024 at 3:30 PM in Old Cabell Hall on the UVA Grounds. This event is free to attend and open to the public. This concert is supported by the Gertrude Weber Endowment for Music.
Baroque and Beyond presents "Italian à la mode", a program for large string ensemble which explores a wide range of music both Italian and Italian-inspired. Composers include the well-known (Vivaldi, Albinoni, Muffat) and the less well-known (Camilla di Rossi, Maria Margherita Grimani, JCF Bach), among others. Spanning over 125 years, the program traces the Italian style as it developed and influenced works by French and German composers.
In collaboration with UVA and supported by the Weber Endowment, Baroque and Beyond has for this program assembled a 10-piece string ensemble, including violone, keyboards, and theorbo. Based in Chapel Hill, NC, Baroque and Beyond produces an annual series of concerts featuring music of the Baroque era, with occasional excursions into the classic and romantic eras, featuring interesting and innovative programming. Baroque & Beyond is committed to the use of period instruments and historically informed performance practices (HIP). Founded in 2008 by Beverly Biggs, cellist Stephanie Vial was named Artistic Director in 2022.
This concert is supported by the Gertrude Weber Endowment for Music.
Old Cabell Hall is located on the south end of UVA's historic lawn, directly opposite the Rotunda (map).
