Renaud and Gautier Capucon

On Wednesday, November 19th from 12-2pm, students from the McIntire department of music chamber music program will have the rare opportunity to perform in a masterclass for the world renowned Renaud and Gautier Capucon.  This event will take place in the auditorium of Old Cabell Hall, on the campus of the University of Virginia, and is free and open to the public.

Brothers of exceptional talent, Renaud and Gautier Capuçon have gained international attention with their superior style and dazzling virtuosity. After studying at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique de Paris and awarded First Prizes, both have won numerous awards including a Victoires de la Musique (French equivalent to a Grammy) as "New Talent of the Year". In addition to their promising solo careers, the duo has performed in chamber music collaborations with Martha Argerich, Stephen Kovacevich and Frank Braley, and have recently performed the Brahms Double Concerto with the Orchestre de Paris and Christoph Eschenbach. Renaud and Gautier have two duo recordings on the Virgin Classics label: "Face á Face", contemporary violin and cello duos, and the chamber music of Ravel with pianist Frank Braley. For EMI, they have recorded Mendelssohn's Piano Trio No. 1 with legendary pianist Martha Argerich.

This distinguished duo will be teaching student ensembles chosen from the McIntire Department of Music chamber music program.  Audience members will be provided with the opportunity to view instruction on rehearsal techniques, musical analysis, and a host of other topics from world-class musicians.  Four student groups will perform and receive instruction during this two-hour class.  They will be performing a wide variety of music from Mozart to Ravel.

This event is a great chance for students, teachers, and community members to hear great music from talented, young UVA students and to glean unique insight on the art of playing chamber music from some of the best musicians of our time.  If you have any further questions about this event, please feel free to contact me, Adam Carter, at .
