Sheila Browne Viola Workshop & Masterclass
Sheila Browne enjoys an international career as a soloist, chamber musician, professor and as an orchestral principal. Having performed in major halls on five continents, she is an American from the Philadelphia area who also has Irish citizenship. She has been hailed by the New York Times as a "stylish player" for her concerto playing in Carnegie Hall, and by Robert Mann of the Juilliard Quartet as "one of America's most important violists." Ms. Browne has soloed with the Juilliard Orchestra, Kiev Philharmonic, New World Symphony, in Carnegie Hall with the New York Women's Ensemble, South African International Viola Congress Festival Orchestra and the Viva Vivaldi!, Reina Sofia and German-French chamber orchestras, among others. Ms. Browne is the violist of the Serafin String Quartet and full-time faculty at the University of Delaware, as well as a member of the Fire Pink Trio. Ms. Browne received a Naumburg scholarship and a Bachelor of Music degree at The Juilliard School, where she was famed pedagogue Karen Tuttle's teaching assistant for four years. She was awarded a German Academic Exchange (DAAD) scholarship to study with soloist Kim Kashkashian at the MusikHochschule in Freiburg, Germany, and Paul Katz was her quartet mentor while she was Karen Ritscher's teaching assistant at Rice University.
Old Cabell Hall is located on the south end of UVA's historic lawn, directly opposite the Rotunda (map). Parking is available in the Central Grounds parking garage on Emmet Street, in the C1 parking lot off McCormick Rd, and in the parking lots at the UVA Corner. Handicap parking is available in the small parking lot adjacent to Bryan Hall.
