Concert Band in Spring 2013The McIntire Department of Music presents the UVA Concert Band and the UVA Wind Ensemble performing a free, family-friendly outdoor concert on Monday, April 28th, 2014 at 6:30pm in the UVA Amphitheater. (Due to rain we have had to move this concert to Old Cabell Hall)

The University of Virginia Concert Band, conducted by assistant directors Andrew Koch and Duane Coston, is composed of eighty to ninety dedicated student musicians from every division and department within the University. Bring a picnic and celebrate the end of school while listening to old standards, pop and concertos.

The Wind Ensemble, under the direction of Dr. William Pease and assistant director Andrew Koch, features 45 of the most outstanding brass, woodwind, and percussion players at the University. Recent concerts have included works from the musical Les Miserables, performed with Broadway performer Ivan Rutherford, Erik Ewazen’s “Hymn to the Lost and the Living" (2002), Michael Mogensen’s “Aerial Fantasy” (2005), and Dmitri Shostakovich’s “Folk Festival” (1955) Focus is placed on exploring new literature as well as performing the masterworks of the wind band era.
