The UVA Flute Ensemble, is comprised of talented student musicians majoring in all areas of study. Recitals feature music of standard flute repertoire as well as contemporary works including pieces for soloists and multiple flutes. Recent concerts have celebrated the works of Debussy, Quantz, Kuhlau, Briccialdi, Bozza, and a premiere of a new piece by Alan Cox. The group performs a recital at the end of each semester as well as outreach recitals in the Charlottesville community.
The UVA Flute Ensemble will present it's Fall 2009 Concert, featuring flutists Amanda Brody, Arin Noble, Jennifer Dishman and Emily Schrieber. The concert will begin with a Divertimento for Flute Quartet by Haydn. This is a five movement work that is comprised of excerpts from the works of Franz Joesph Haydn. The Ensemble will then present an original work by UVA's own Walter Ross. Mr. Ross' Rondino Fantastico was originally composed for the Los Angeles Flute Quartet. The Ensemble will conclude the concert with a four movement work by Jacuqes Casterede entitled Flutes En Vacances. This concert is free and open to the public.
The UVA Flute Ensemble is being coached by Angela Kelly in the fall of 2009.
