Lights, Camera, Action!  Selections from movies and Broadway will hit the stage on Saturday, March 29, at 3:30 pm in Old Cabell Hall at U.Va. Songs from Frozen, Spring Awakening, The Color Purple, and Avatar will add flair to this entertaining concert presented by the Virginia Women’s Chorus.

Come celebrate spring with current favorites, including Let it Go, classics, spirituals and Appalachian folk music. Performances will range from the popular Mama Who Bore Me, to the traditional Bright Morning Stars are Rising, to selections by Mendelssohn and Judith Shatin, professor and composer at U.Va. A jazz combo with piano, guitar, trumpet, bass, and drums will add zest and ramp up a concert that may just send you to heaven and back. This diverse display of music is sure to inspire and uplift audiences of any age! The Chorus is known for bringing novelty to its concerts and this year will be no different.  The Virginia Belles, U.Va.’s oldest female a cappella group, will join the Chorus, and there will be a few surprises. Come and enjoy a fantastic program!

The Virginia Women's Chorus, conducted by Katherine “KaeRenae” Mitchell, is committed to excellence in the performance of classical, contemporary and diverse music from the challenging choral literature for women's voices.  The Chorus seeks to inspire in the choral art form through the celebration of women’s repertoire. Comprised of devoted and talented young women from seven countries and nine states, this ensemble is student-run and continues to uphold its tradition of exceptional music. Accolades come from many concert-goers and include comments such as this: “The concert was stunningly beautiful, sensitively programmed and a musical treat of the highest order.  It really was quite amazing.”       

Admission to the concert is $15 for adults, $10 for VWC alums, and $5 for students and may be purchased from the Arts Box Office and by phone at (434)924-3376. Old Cabell Hall is located on the south end of UVA's historic Lawn, directly opposite the Rotunda.  Parking is available in at the Central Grounds Parking Garage, or in the lots off University Avenue at the University CornerHandicapped parking is available in the C1 parking lot or in designated spaces on McCormick Avenue.

The Virginia Women's Chorus is affiliated with the McIntire Department of Music.
